Now we’ve hit Spring it’s time to stir things up a bit. So we’ve picked out our favourite restaurants for you to try this month. These are so good you might even be lost for words!
Date night is all about making a good impression, and the importance of the setting can’t be overstated. Rubicon is a swanky, starry-ceilinged haven of European foodie goodness, and it’s about as romantic as they come. Try the Beef Cheek in Pedro Ximénez, or splash out on the delectable set degustation if you’re really looking to impress. It’s quite an experience!
“My all-time favourite restaurant in Canberra. Every time I go, the food is amazing and service impeccable. The wine list is quite extensive, and the waiters know what to suggest for your palate. I prefer to do a tasting of everything on the menu rather than pick one dish, that way you get to sample all of the goodness!!!” – mici80
From the elegant layout to the gorgeous presentation to the incredible flavours, Sage truly is the fanciest of the fancy. The chefs here source nearly all of their top-class ingredients from their very own farm, and the three-course degustation here is definitely one for the ‘must-do Canberra’ category. Special occasion coming up? Go for it!
“Please take my advice and book your table at Sage now! This hidden gem, located in the Gorman House Arts Centre, serves subtle, French-inspired dishes using gormet local produce. The lunch and dinner menus offer a range of delights each paired with a suggested wine. But for a real treat, try the degustation – 6 courses of utter bliss!” – emmams
Bars with Live Music
Australian craft beer, super-friendly staff and a varied multitude of local, national and international acts conspire to make Transit one of the state’s very best live music bars. It’s loud, lively and tons of fun, and does damn good pizzas, too. Stroll in, grab a pint of Brew Cult’s Keep on Truckin’, and prepare for a thoroughly kickass night .
Are you a regular down at Transit? Review it on True Local!
Girls’ Night Out
There’s no night out like a girls’ night out, and Playground Bar has got you covered. The vibes are happy, the cocktails strong, and the décor is fabulously funky (including murals, a hopscotch grid and the most colourful array of chairs you’ve ever sat on). Go for a That’s What She Said, with Malibu, Chambord, peach liqueur, raspberry puree, and strawberry. That should be a very nice way to start your night 😉

In the right hands, Japanese cuisine is a unique and sophisticated wealth of intricate flavours. And you know what? The hands don’t get much more righteous than LiloTang’s! This spacious, modern and beautifully lit restaurant revels in bringing authentic Japan to Canberra, and you simply have to taste the duck breast sukiyaki. It’s the tenderest, most flavoursome piece of duck you’ll ever eat.
