what's happening december melbourne

Ahh, sun, sand and Christmas. It’s December in Melbourne! Here’s what we’ve got to look forward to this month.

Horror Movie Campout

Date: 3 – 4 December

Location: Point Cook Homestead, Point Cook

As Gremlins, Black Christmas and last year’s Krampus teach us, there’s nothing more festive than a good old horror flick. The fiendishly awesome Horror Movie Campout is lurching its way back to Melbourne, and it’s bringing all kinds of gory fun this time around. All you need is your camping gear, a tent (unless you opt for the plushy ‘Lazy Camper’ option) and nerves of steel, with diabolical actors roaming the site and the infamous ‘Death Chamber’ scare maze waiting for all who dare enter. There’s also live bands, various food stalls, and even the odd horror movie! It’s a total blast. Find out more

Mad Hatter’s Christmas Party

Date: 4 December

Location: Mornington Racecourse, Mornington

Christmas is always better when it’s a little bit different, and that’s precisely what’s on offer at Mad Hatter’s Christmas Party. On December 4th, the swanky Mornington Racecourse will be transformed into its very own Wonderland, with no expense spared in recreating the famous tea party setting from Lewis Carroll’s classic. There’ll be a beer garden, food trucks, live music and over 170 unique art and design stalls to peruse, as well as a host of great activities for the kids (who get in free if they’re under 12) to immerse themselves in. It’ll be weird, wonderful and unmistakably festive. Find out more

St Kilda Foreshore Slam Beach Festival

Date: 17 December

Location: South Beach Reserve, St Kilda

‘Beach’ and ‘festival’ are two the most summery words known to humanity, which makes them very welcome here. The St Kilda Foreshore Slam Beach Festival is a proper Melbourne highlight, bringing music, food, booze and tons more down upon the gorgeous setting of St Kilda. Expect great vibes, thousands of attractive, scantily-clad people and the best volleyball tournament this side of the Olympics (well, kind of. Anyone can enter, and it’s mostly just a big laugh). The festival lasts from midday to 8pm, so there’s plenty of time to check out everything it has to offer. Find out more
