No, before you ask, it’s not a chocolate eating contest. It’s an actual marathon, and involves you doing actual running with your legs. Still, don’t let that put you off. The Cadbury Marathon is organised by Athletics Tasmania, and is geared towards promoting fitness and raising money for charity (Clown Doctors, to be precise!). You can choose between five races of varying lengths (including a special one for kids), and the prizes go as high as $1200. It’s a huge event with thousands getting involved, and it’s as fun as it is challenging. Find out more

It spans multiple bars and breweries across Hobart, and features all sorts of events to gulp down. You can sample the best of the island’s boutique beers at various tasting sessions. The Cat Empire & Xavier Rudd

Date: 26 January

Location: St David’s Park, Hobart

Ahh, together at last! The Cat Empire and Xavier Rudd are two of the most eclectic, entertaining and continually relevant acts to emerge from the Australian music scene since the turn of the millennium, and their nationwide tour is a must for fans of both. Mixing ska, jazz, Latin and about 8,000 other genres together, The Cat Empire are an energetic blast to catch live. Their party sound is perfectly complemented by the spiritual mellowness of Xavier Rudd, whose folksy, surfy tunes never fail to move. The St David’s Park show is kicking off the entire tour, so make sure you don’t miss it! Find out more
