From ice cream extravaganzas to scientific adventures, there’s no end of cool stuff going on in Brisbane this month. Here’s the pick of the bunch.
Date: 26 February – 28 March
Location: Brisbane Powerhouse, New Farm and Brisbane City Hall, Brisbane
The Brisbane Comedy Festival just keeps on growing, and this year’s edition is set to feature 66 comedians across two excellent venues. International superstars like Stephen K. Amos, Ruby Wax and Jason Byrne will be joined by Aussie superstars such as Wil Anderson, as well as the country’s most exciting up-and-coming young talent. There’s nothing like a good laugh to cure what ails you, so have a gander at the program and see what catches your eye. Oh, and be sure to browse all the awesome food vendors gathering in King George Square!
Date: 3 March
Location: King George’s Square
Speaking of King George’s Square, food vendors aren’t the only thing to look out for there this month. The Brisbane Twilight Market is rocking up on the 3rd, and it’s gonna knock your socks off. It’s the only Brisbane-exclusive handmade market, with a huge array of local artisan selling unique, expertly crafted wares. You won’t find a single mass-produced item here, so it’s the perfect place to pick up an extra-special present or two. There will also be live music, loads of delicious food and a free craft workshop to get stuck into – seems like heaps of fun to us!
Date: 11 March
Location: Peters Ice Cream Factory, West End
If you let out a little squeal when you read the phrase “Ice Cream Festival”, that’s perfectly alright. Honestly, who could blame you? The Brisbane Ice Cream Festival invites all the city’s finest vendors of delectable frozen treats (including Cowch, Gelato Messina and Ruby the Little Red Ice Cream Van) to join forces and serve up the good stuff at Peters Ice Cream Factory, with pop-up stalls, live tunes and a special bar dishing out frozen alcoholic tipples. This may be the best thing that’s happened all year, so grab those elastic-waisted pants and prepare to treat yo’self.
Date: 22 – 26 March
The World Science Festival made its triumphant Brisbane debut last year, and it’s heading back again at the end of the month to blow us all away once more. It’s a fantastic, multi-venue event that mixes films, lectures, workshops, activities, interactive exhibitions and more, all with the aim of promoting scientific and environmental awareness through fun and engaging means. From stargazing to madcap ‘street science’ displays to a live panel discussion on the relationship between science and faith, there’s no end of amazing things to see and do. Whatever interests you, be it astronomy, renewable energy or the concept of science as an art form, you need to check this out.
