The Brisbane Hotel

Highgate

The Brisbane Hotel is an attractive, laid-back and thoroughly agreeable venue, and never more so than when the fire’s a-roarin’. The chefs have a real flair for modern Australian comfort food (try the spicy, twice-cooked pork belly), and don’t charge through the roof for it, either. Get there for happy hour at 5:30, and don’t forget to head upstairs to check out the famous comedy club on weekends!

The Oxford Hotel

Leederville

Continually expanded, cleaned up and renovated since its 1906 opening, The Oxford Hotel is a triumph of rustic cosiness and exceptional service. It’s a huge venue with about a million different bars and function rooms, but nothing beats settling in by the fireplace of the lovely main restaurant area. A pint on one side, a plate of Cumberland sausage and mash on the other, and you’re golden!

“Food consistently good and the staff are very friendly.” – snoozin99

Captain Stirling Hotel

Nedlands

Whoever Captain Stirling is, he sure runs a good hotel! It’s all about the lively, cheap-and-cheerful atmosphere here, and the large open fire draws in many a patron on a chilly winter’s eve. The tasty, unpretentious food is just perfect for staving off the cold, with the ‘Jambalaya’ being a particular favourite. It’s chorizo and chillies in a rich, tomatoey sauce, with optional prawns or chicken, too. Yum.

The Cabin

Mount Hawthorn

We’ve got a serious case of Cabin fever! This place is true old-school quality, with the elegant-yet-eccentric décor forming a beautiful space in which to kick back and while away the hours. The warmth of the clever fireplace spreads to every corner, and the delectable food is made to be shared. Give the buttermilk fried chicken with blue cheese ranch a go!

“Went to The Cabin on Sat night and loved it! Has a real cosy, lounge room feel to it as well as a great balcony to enjoy the views! The menu was great, with mostly shared options but some good substantial stuff as well. Great wine list and cocktails that were 11bucks! Service was great, not too intrusive but always there when you needed them.” – perthrocks
