Yots Hair Says It’s All About Natural Hair This Autumn

When it comes to finding a hairdresser, only the best will do. It’ll be that hairstylist who looks at your split ends and mousey roots, and somehow transforms you into a goddess with luscious flowing locks that bounce with life and light. Yots Hair in Adelaide has received rave reviews, so we decided to have a chat with two members of the creative team at the King William Road Salon – Isabella and Matilda.

Matilda is one of the Senior Stylists and started her career working in a top Sydney salon, styling the hair of Australia’s fashion insiders and top bloggers, assisting on editorial shoots and working backstage at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. Isabella is a Junior Stylist and since starting her apprenticeship she has gained both editorial and runway styling experience and established herself as an emerging stylist in Adelaide. In fact, you could say hairdressing is in her blood. As the daughter of the salon directors, she started working as a casual salon assistant when she was just 15 years old.

Hair Salons Adelaide

Hi ladies, thanks for taking the time to talk to us. Can you tell us a bit about Yots Hair?

Yots Hair was established in 1989, with locations in Unley and North Adelaide. We offer our clients top-quality hairdressing services, including beautiful colour, precision cutting and on-trend styling.

Our speciality is incredible blonde colour work – we focus on delivering flawless results whilst maintaining the health of our clients’ hair. Our team are constantly sharing photos over at our Instagram page. Check it out and follow us!

Are there any hair products that are an absolute must-have for you?

Olaplex, for sure! It’s an incredible product that works to multiply the bonds in your hair during the colour service, leaving lightened hair healthier and stronger. It’s really allowed us to push the boundaries when colouring, without jeopardising the health and integrity of our clients’ hair. We absolutely swear by it at Yots!

We also think that a good quality curling wand is a must-have, to achieve the perfect wave. We love the Cloud Nine styling irons.

Can you give us any insight on the next big hair trends of 2016?

For colour, balayage is definitely here to stay. The current trend is colour that looks effortless and a little bit lived in. We’ve also seen Olaplex revolutionise the colour industry, so we will start to see a lot more healthy, natural-looking colours this year.

Are there any other hairstyles that you think are coming back into fashion?

Right now, we’re seeing the re-emergence of the 70’s style fringe, worn a little bit dishevelled and sexy. Something else we’re loving right now is seeing women back away from heat styling and opt for a look that embraces their natural texture – particularly ladies with curly hair! A good haircut is key here, so ask your stylist for a style that complements your natural hair.

For men, fringes are definitely due for a comeback, but with a twist. More loose face-framing curls or piecey pixie-style cuts.

So do you have any tips to make sure my hair stylist nails my look?

The best way to get what you want from your hairdresser is to walk into the salon with a clear idea of your goal. Bring lots of reference pictures, but remain realistic and have an open mind about the process – how long it might take, and what your hair is capable of.

When looking for inspiration photos, choose ones that depict hair with a similar thickness and texture to your own to ensure that the results you want are actually achievable. And always listen to what your stylist has to say – it’s our job to know all there is to know about hair and offer advice!

You guys obviously know best, so what are a couple of expert tips for maintaining my hair between visits?

Take good care of it! Invest in a quality shampoo, conditioner and deep conditioner (we love Kevin.Murphy and Mr Smith products) and stick to your hair care regimen to maintain the health of your locks. This will help to minimise damage and breakage, and maintain your colour.

Ask your stylist to help you find products that suit your hair type to ensure you’re getting the most out of your products. For blondes, purple shampoo and conditioner are a must-have to combat brassy tones!
