You know that saying, “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure”? Well, that’s exactly what Portobello Road at the Old Bus Depot Markets is all about. Everyone loves a treasure hunt, so head on down and have fun rummaging through an eclectic assortment of weird and wacky paraphernalia, from antique ceramics and jewellery to old suitcases and retro lamp shades. You definitely won’t find any of this stuff in regular stores, and every item comes with its own story and history from lives from times gone by. Find out more

 

Summer Sounds

What better way to spend a summer’s evening in Canberra than within the beautiful natural surrounds of the Botanic Gardens, listening to the smoooooooth sounds of the blues, jazz, rockabilly and more? This January, the Gardens are host to a range of amazing musicians that’ll have you swooning and snapping your fingers the whole way through. Josh Pyke – But For All Those Shrinking Hearts Album Tour

He’s one of Australia’s most successful acoustic artists, he’s just a released a new album, and he’s taking it all around Australia in a massive tour that’ll see him hitting stages in almost every capital city. This January, the dreamy Josh Pyke be right here in Canberra, performing tracks from But For All Those Shrinking Hearts, which debuted at #1 on the Australian albums chart and #2 on the ARIA charts in 2015. Supported by Banff, an indie-popping boy from Brissy, Pyke and his mates will melt the hearts of the whole darn crowd. Be sure to book ahead, as his earlier run of intimate gigs sold out fast, and this time round is sure to be just as popular. Find out more

 

Ben and Jerry’s Open Air Cinema

Let’s cut right to the chase – FREE ICE CREAM. Yep, every Sunday at the Ben & Jerry’s Open Air Cinema is what they’re calling a ‘Sundae Session’, where you’ll be treated to not only a rip-roaring flick but also a dedicated live music performance and FREE, yes FREE, ice cream for everyone! But do head on over to the Patrick White Lawns every other day of the week to catch the many new releases and old classics that’ll be showing for over a month of movie madness.
