UN International Yoga Day Festival

Date: 19 June
Location: Celebration Lawn, Roma St Parklands

Being an adult sucks sometimes. Bills, responsibilities, appointments, financial planning, ugh! It’s the pits. Sometimes you just need a breather from the stresses of adulting – so on June 19, celebrate the United Nations International Day of Yoga with a free community event at the annual Yoga Day Festival. You can bring the kids, if you like, as there will be plenty of kids’ games, activities, and live music to entertain them. But if you want some quiet time to yourself, there will be asana yoga classes, yoga chants, and deep peace meditation on tap so you can properly unwind before heading back out into the big bad scary world and being an adult again. West End Film Festival

Date: 24-26 June
Location: West End

Steven Spielberg’s big break came off a short film about hippies in love; Peter Jackson’s first film at the age of nine was an attempt to remake King Kong using stop-motion animation; Stanley Kubrick self-funded his early short film documentary, eventually selling it for a $100 profit. Short films have a long history of giving new filmmakers a voice – and you never know where the next big talent is coming from. We’ve got some exceptional up-and-comers right here in Brisbane, and from June 24 to 26, you can find them at the West End Film Festival. Head to The Boundary at 137 Boundary Street, West End, on June 24 for the free festival launch party that includes the 2016 Music Video Awards, as well as fantastic live bands and performers.
