Dark Mofo

Date: 10-21 June

Things are going to get dark and freaky in Hobart this month! The Dark Mofo festival is once again taking over the city’s hidden shadows, underground tunnels, and the deepest crevices of your soul. At the nexus of it all is the Dark Park, a free interactive art playground from which several events will be held. Don’t miss the procession from Parliament Lawns to the Dark Park, converging into the torching of the Ogoh-Ogoh along with your deepest fears. There are stacks of free events to find, as well as art, film and music to enjoy, the nude solstice swim at Long Beach Reserve, and the weekend winter feast. Come explore your dark side. Neither Here Nor There

Date: 15-19 June
Location: Pedestrian tunnels beneath Railway Roundabout (aka. Fountain Roundabout), Brooker Highway

As part of the Dark Mofo festival, Neither Here nor There is merging artistic minds from Tassie and the mainland to examine creative practice in public space. It’s an exploration of space without leaving Earth, as five artists and one architect delve into their own creativity in the pedestrian tunnels under Fountain Roundabout. What comes out the other side is anyone’s guess, but make sure to witness what happens from June 15 to 19. Find out more

 

The Wharf Revue

Date: 30 June – 2 July
Location: Theatre Royal, 29 Campbell Street, Hobart

If you’re looking for a bitingly witty event with plenty of political satire, then The Wharf Revue at the Theatre Royal will be right up your alley. Everything is fair game and no political party will be left unscathed in this sharp and uproariously funny revue. Featuring the talents of Jonathan Biggins, Amanda Bishop, Drew Forsythe, and Phillip Scott, Australian politics is about to be ripped a new one, so be sure to get your tickets early before they sell out. Festival of Voices

Date: 30 June – 17 July
Location: Various

Remember Maria and how she frolicked in the Austrian hills singing about how alive they were? Well, here in Hobart we about to get our own taste of the sound of music, with this year’s Festival of Voice. This year’s program promises something truly special, with the likes of comedy trio Tripod, and Australian cabaret sensation Meow Meow performing her original song cycle with the Tasmanian Lilliputian Choir.
