The clock strikes 5pm and every staffer’s thoughts turn to where they should go for post-work drinks. Naturally, Melbourne is oozing with stylish, quirky venues that are just crying out for you to share on Instagram, so how do you pick the best place to wind down after work?
Thankfully, we’ve done the heavy lifting (of wine glasses) and found the most sought-after spots, perfect to ring in the weekend or relax after a hard day in the office.
Grab your colleagues and try a couple of these beauties!
1 Flinders Walk
Located right next-door to Flinders Street Station, Arbory Bar & Eatery is everything you could want from an after-work drinks venue. It’s the opposite of pretentious, serving simple dishes and tasty espresso martinis in an outdoor setting that overlooks the river.
You’ll find plenty of other corporates congregating here for post-work beverages, and can sip on everything from Aperol Spritz to margaritas and a long list of wines.
101 Flinders St
In the heart of Flinders Lane, you’ll find a sprawling four-level pub with a chilled-out ambience, classic drinks and delicious food. What more could you want in an after-work venue? Throw in some toasties from the Kiosk and some local craft brews, and you’re set for a good few hours!
The atrium in the middle level is a big crowd pleaser, with its leafy and airy space, plus if you stick around long enough the downstairs area transforms into a lively dance floor.
275 Exhibition St
Trunk Bar has been around since 2007, and has made quite a name for itself in the Melbourne bar scene. The name ‘Trunk’ was inspired by the 150-year-old heritage listed Coral Tree in the courtyard, which despite the tree actually boasts plenty of open space to relax in after the workday.
Trunk Bar serves up pizzas and burgers from its American-style diner that you can share between colleagues, while you enjoy some of the local and international wines, beer and cocktails.
161 Spring St
It wouldn’t be a round up of slick Melbourne bars without a rooftop bar, and at Siglo you won’t be disappointed. One of the more glamorous rooftop bars, Siglo offers views of Parliament House and the Princess Theatre. And we haven’t even mentioned the exotic cocktails or European-style grazing plates!
The vibe is Parisian wicker chairs, white clothed tables and – if you’re interested – a selection of fine Cuban cigars, making it a great spot for corporates to unwind on a Friday evening.
