When September comes around, every Melbourne resident knows it’s time to celebrate the famous Melbourne Fringe festival, this year running from the 16th of September to the 4th of October. Each year it’s hard to miss this huge independent arts festival held in hundreds of locations around Melbourne which caters events for all ages, backgrounds and budgets.
This unique event has grown and evolved over 33 years and is now one of Australia’s largest multi-artform festivals, each year featuring 400+ events by 6000+ artists in 160+ venues across Melbourne and regional Victoria to audiences of over 300 000 people. It includes a wide variety of art forms, including theatre, comedy, music, performance art, film, cabaret, digital art, and circus performance as well.
In addition to the many art shows, the Melbourne Fringe Festival also includes visual art exhibitions, music performances and film premiers. Visitors will find excellent and diverse options of performances and show. This arts and cultural festival not only features artists from Melbourne, but also many from around Australia.
