Perth has been underestimated in the food and bar scene for far too long. With some inventive, funky, cool, rockin’ joints just opened, we’ve got this whole game sorted. Check out our list of some of the best new restaurant, café and bar openings in and around the city.
For a good time, all you need is three ingredients: pizza, booze and rock n roll. Luckily for us, the recently opened Alfred’s Pizzeria ticks all the boxes. Tucked away in a little building downstairs on Barrack Street in the city, Alfred’s is set to be your new favourite pizza joint. The pizzas are all made from imported Italian flours and are going with fairly traditional toppings (these things are classics for good reason). You’ll also find an interesting mix of good-quality affordable wines, an excellent range of boutique beers, and great tunes to rock out to all night long. Rock on, Perth.

Not so long ago, you may have remembered an ice-cream cart making its rounds around Perth’s markets, festivals, and events. Now, finally, ChiCho have opened a gelataria in Northbridge and we simply cannot get enough! Expect inventive flavour creations of daily churned gelato with up to 20 varieties rotating according to seasonality and pretty much whatever they feel like. That’s more than fine with us though, as their creative minds are coming up with amazing combinations like lavender and honeycomb, pandan and roast peanut brittle, or (our personal fave) smoky Mexican chocolate.

The hippocampus is the part of the brain believed to be the centre for emotion, memory and spacial awareness. The Hippocampus Bar is also a place for emotionally responding to the amazing small-batch gin and vodka created in their own distillery, remembering how much you love gin and vodka, and finding your way to the bar for the next round. While the distillery has been kicking on for a few years, a bar has just recently opened so you can sample a tasty cocktail made from their very own product. There’s an assortment of antipasto to get you through the night, and if you happen to love the craft-distilled gin and vodka, you can even take one home with you!

Located right on City Beach, this new eatery is serving stunning modern Australian dishes that are just as breathtaking as the scenery. Committed to supporting local producers and seasonal ingredients, the menu beautifully designed. After all, we can’t think of anything better than their their vine-ripened tomato stuffed with chorizo, chilli, and egg on a bed of white bean and a side of sourdough bread (and we’ll have a sneaky Bloody Caesar cocktail on the side, thanks). Lunch and dinner are fantastic as well, with some fantastic fresh seafood offerings, and desserts like their specialty doughnut that’s just to die for (and totally Instaworthy).

The wait is almost over, Perthians, because Meat Candy will finally bestow its meaty blessings upon us all in July. Prepare yourselves, because real Nashville fried chicken is about to Rock. Your. World. Choose your heat levels from “southern” up to “you’re an idiot” or go for some charcoal grilled and smoky barbecue and prepare yourself for some very serious meat sweats. You just have to ask yourself: Am I feeling clucky?
