If you thought all the best cafes and restaurants in Perth were in the city, well, we’ve got news for you. The suburbs are bringing the flavour. Here are five local favourites where you’re guaranteed a great feed.
The mysterious Mrs S quite clearly knows a thing or two about running a cafe, and Maylands would be an infinitely poorer place without her. From the rainbow of cakes stretched over the counter to the fascinating wall art, there’s so much to love at this trendy sidewalk café. The food is on point too, and we highly recommend Granny June’s Cornbread, made with poached eggs, bacon, syrup and greens. What more could you want?
“Good coffee, nice cakes and the kids love the golden books on the tables.” – fiona david
If your brain says health food but your heart says sweets, Little Sisto is the place for you. This fabulous café sells a range of amazing desserts that are fresh, raw, vegan and totally packed with flavour. If you’re heading in for brekkie, you can’t go past the Smoothie Bowl – with nuts, seeds, banana, chocolate peanut butter, granola and peanut butter fudge. Located out in Doubleview, Little Sisto is a good place to bring little’uns too, as there’s a giant chalkboard outside!
Have you made the trip to Little Sisto yet? Why not review it on True Local?
Sitting right on the coastline, you’d expect Sorrento to have a few decent seafood spots. And you’d be right! One of the best is Voyage Kitchen, and its crab linguini will make your taste buds squeal with delight. Made in house, with tomatoes, chilli, lemon, garlic, and pangratatto, it’s simply sublime. You might say that Voyage is definitely worth the… journey. (What did you think we were going to say?)
“Lovely little cafe on the West Coast Drive. Their coffee is great but the BEST thing is their cakes. Loads to choose from and never disappointed me. Best thing they are homemade. The service is good to- friendly staff considering they are always buzzing. Love to go there.” – lily Vanilly
Chicken and waffles is one of those classic, decadent American dishes – and if you haven’t given it a try, then you need to hop in the car and drive out to Ley Street Café at once. Sitting pretty down in Como, the menu is packed with delicious dishes. But let’s be real: the main event is their fluffy waffles with perfectly fried chicken, which even comes with avo and maple bacon. Because everything is better with bacon, obviously.
“I’ve been to this cafe countless times over the year and have received outstanding food every single time. Can’t fault this place. Very reasonable prices, child friendly eclectic setting, love it!” – cberry
One of the best things about hitting up a suburban café is the welcoming, friendly feel – and when you come to Gusto Food, that’s exactly what you get. The staff at Gusto are awesome, and they clearly love what they do. This busy brunch hotspot does everything from muesli to burgers, but we always find it tough to look past the sumptuous Mediterranean Calamari. It comes with chickpeas, chorizo, tortilla and a special feta & dill salad.
“Absolutely perfect!!! And I am not even exaggerating – the prices are fair, they give you massive portions and you’ll certainly leave the door feeling satisfied and blessed. The homemade crumpets is their special and can only be found in this cafe so grab a taste and change your life! Brought my friend who also couldn’t believe how incredible the food and taste was. Can’t wait to go again!” – isabelle981
