Unleash Your Inner Pirate at Adelaide’s Best Rum Bars
As winter tightens its grip, rum becomes pretty much mandatory. We rounded up our pick of the best bars to keep you warm at night.
Cosy, quirky and full of wonderful oddities (that model ship looks like it took some effort), Hains & Co is the perfect example of Adelaide’s emerging bar scene. The staff are great, in terms of both knowledge and attitude, and the cocktails are designed to impress. Try the Sweet Drop, for example, with dark rum, maraschino and sweet vermouth. Yum…
“Hains and Co is one of my go to bars. And luckily me for me yesterday, it was one of the few small bars open on a Monday afternoon! The staff here are always amazing – very friendly and helpful. Always ready to suggest something new or help you narrow down the huge range of choices available.” – 4chillis
Maybe Mae is a dark and sultry cocktail lounge with a genuine reverence for the art of fine mixing. The art deco look is plucked straight out of some vivid, noirish dream, and the team behind the bar are true masters at what they do. Just ask them to craft you one of their famous Mae Tais, and you’ll see exactly what we mean!

A very recent addition to Adelaide’s boutique bar collection, Thrift Shop is proud to showcase the very best in Australian booze. You won’t find a single beverage that doesn’t originate from our fair shores here, so it’s a great choice if you fancy a particularly patriotic drink (the best kind). We’d personally recommend the Ned Kelly, made from house-blended rums, apricot liqueur, pineapple and lime.

We couldn’t get through this whole list without mentioning a pina colada somewhere, so we’ve gone for the thoroughly delicious one served up at La Moka. It’s a classic mix of white rum, pineapple juice, Coco Lopez cream and lime juice, finished off with fresh strawberries, mint and a slice of pineapple. This charmingly rustic little cafe/wine bar is the ideal place to enjoy it, too!

Pink Moon Saloon is a “house of fire and drink”, which sounds like a pretty cool house to us. This place is very cute, and kind of feels like stopping by an endearingly eccentric old friend’s house for a hearty bite (the ploughman’s is glorious) and a good drink. As for which good drink? Well, the Watermelon Cooler is always fun! That’s white rum, white wine, watermelon and lemon.
