Substation No.41 Rum Bar

Breakfast Creek

With over 400 types of rum from across the world, the Substation No.41 Rum Bar seems like a pretty good place to start your night. It’s based in the Breakfast Creek Hotel, famous for still serving beer ‘off the wood’ (straight from wooden keg), and offers the same wonderfully traditional experience with rum. The staff are genuine experts, and always delighted to advise if you’re not sure where to start.

West End

A tropical beach hut in the heart of West End, Jungle offers a welcome slice of exotic escapism to all who wander by. It’s a cosy little tiki bar with all the right trimmings, from bamboo walls to carved totem seats, and its rum cocktails are right on the money. The Beachcomber is a particular favourite, comprised of Appleton, lime juice and homemade white grapefruit and cinnamon orgeat. Tangy!

Fortitude Valley

LONgTIME combines killer cocktails with what is honestly some of the best Thai food you’ll ever taste, and does so in gorgeously sultry style. It’s all black bricky walls and dark wooden fittings, with the orbs of light that hang from the greenery-strewn ceiling illuming everything to dim perfection. Try a fiery Wild Mar-Thai-Ni, with Wild Turkey, Lillet blanc, spiced rum syrup, lemon and ginger. You won’t regret it!

The Walrus Club

One for true connoisseurs of the drinking arts, The Walrus Club is a Prohibition-themed celebration of top-shelf goodness. The bartenders here are incredible, and could practically tell you the vintage and purity of any spirit with just a single sniff (as well as the name of the bloke who made it and what he had for breakfast). Ask them to whip you up a custom drink, and prepare to be blown away!

Escobar Kitchen & Bar

New Farm

Whether you seek a simple drink or a full-on meal, Escobar is a proper New Farm gem. It’s a trendy, modern venue with a real sense of warmth, and you never feel like a stranger when you stroll inside.   If you’re in a rummy kind of mood, waste no time in ordering up a Knickerbocker Fizz. That’s gold rum, triple sec and soda, with lemon, raspberry and mint for a cool, refined sweetness.

“Friendly staff, great food and lovely service. Highly recommended.” – Amanda Cassar
