Horror Movie Campout

Date: 3 September

Location: Sirromet Winery, Mount Cotton

Australia’s ultimate horror film event is hitting Queensland this September, with a whole evening of ghoulish goodness planned at the ol’ Sirromet Winery. Horror-themed bands will send shivers down your spine, fiendish characters roam the campsite, and a terrifying selection of feature films and spooky shorts will be playing all night long. It’s the most intense and immersive horror experience around, so make sure you dress up (there are prizes for the best costumes), put on your bravest face, and for goodness’ sake bring a torch. Brisbane Festival

Date: 3 – 24 September

Location: Various

The most spectacular international arts festival in town is back once more, boasting over 70 moving performances. Highlights include a sexy cabaret take on The Little Mermaid, a multi-genre, horror Snow White, slapstick Shakespeare, the mind-bending ‘Rainbow Vomit’, and a wealth of musical talent with artists including Dappled Cities, Kim Gordon, and Montaigne. There are interactive workshops, lectures, exhibitions and more, and there’s no better way to experience the flair, creativity and diversity that make Brisbane the wonderful place it is. Beer InCider Experience

Date: 16 – 17 September

Location: Albion Park Raceway, Albion

Nowhere does beer quite like Australia, and it never hurts to celebrate that fact every now and then. Queensland’s Beer InCider Experience is the perfect place to do so, packing over 30 indie Australian brewers into Albion Park Raceway for a weekend to remember. A wealth of delectable sustenance will be provided by such Brisbane heavyweights as Pizzantica, The Frying Piggy, Saté House and King of the Wings; and musical guests include Josh Pyke, The Strums, The Glorious North and Sinead Burgess. Oz Comic Con

Date: 17 – 18 September

Location: Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre

It’s the most wonderful time of the year for fans of all things pop culture, and this year’s Comic Con is looking very tasty indeed. Whether you’re into films, games, comics, TV, or perusing the countless vendors for that elusive Will Riker figure, you’re guaranteed an awesome time. The guest list is enormous, ranging from actors (Karl Urban, Maggie Roswell) to artists (Queenie Chan, Ken Lashley) to cosplay megastars (Miss Sinister, Major Sam). Kids can get crafty in the Family Activity Room, and don’t forget to check out the brand-new Anime Station. You can watch exclusive premiers in the original Japanese, with English dubs available.
