2016 Korean Film Festival

Date: 3 – 4 September

Location: Palace Electric Cinema, Canberra

Now entering its seventh triumphant year, Canberra’s Korean Film Festival is back once more to explore the very best of modern Korean cinema. This year’s line-up includes action comedy blockbuster Veteran and creepy supernatural thriller The Priests; as well as Baeksang Award-winning director Lee Joon-Ik’s The Throne and Dongju: The Portrait of a Poet. This is your only chance to see these movies on the big screen as they were intended, and it’s definitely not to be missed. The festival is a joint venture between the Embassy of the Republic of Korea and the Korean Cultural Centre, and you can catch it at the gorgeously swanky Palace Electric Cinema. Find out more

Canberra Moon Festival

Date: 10 September

Location: Lennox Gardens, Yarralumla

The Moon Festival is second only to New Year when it comes to massive Chinese parties, and it’s also celebrated as far away as Vietnam, Malaysia and the Philippines. Now, for the first time ever, many of Canberra’s Chinese communities have come together to show the rest of the city what all the fuss is about. For a single night in September, Lennox Gardens will be transformed into a beautiful canvas of Asian culture, complete with food, music, live shows and a wealth of fun family activities to get involved in. As many as 5,000 guests are expected, so it should be quite a day. Find out more

Floriade

Date: 17 September – 16 October

Location: Commonwealth Park, Canberra

As far as Canberra is concerned, it’s not truly spring until Floriade kicks off, and this iconic floral festival is gearing up for its greatest year yet. Over a million bulbs of all shapes, sizes, colours and varieties (there’s more than a hundred species of tulip alone!) have been planted across 8,000 square feet of parkland, and the results are something truly spectacular. Then, of course, there’s all the tasty food, flowing wine, workshops, art exhibitions, live music, and a whole lot more to keep you busy. The festival runs for a whole month, so there’s plenty of time to see it all! Find out more
