Hobart

You know the old saying; double the Daci, double the party. This is a true artisan bakery, whipping up everything from fine breads to fresh sandwiches to gourmet sausage rolls. Of course, we’re here for the sweets, and they don’t come much sweeter than the black cherry, pistachio and meringue tart. It’s one of the best tarts in town and that’s no surprise when you consider the fact that it combines all the best ingredients in the best way possible.

“Magic. We enjoyed lunch, Beef Bourgignonne pie with fresh salad. Fabulous. A Turkey and avocado Sandwich in thick crusty bread. Very tasty. Finishing with a Linzer slice and a fruit mince frangipane tart. Mouth watering. The coffee was excellent, the service very good. We took away an assortment of pastries from their Viennoiserie selection. Could not resist.” – Trev Scott

Raspberry Fool

Hobart

Raspberry Fool is a rather enticing bakery/foodie cafe combination, brought to us by classically trained and much-travelled chef Gail Sellin. Gail’s certainly sold us on the idea of this place, and the cakes are simply awesome. Especially the raspberry (naturally) and rhubarb crumble cake with custard. Amazing.

Tasmanian Gingerbread

Kingston

It’s probably not too surprising to learn that nobody does Tasmanian gingerbread like, well, Tasmanian Gingerbread. It’s rich, soft, dreamily chewy and comes in more varieties than it’s possible to list. Better still, it can be delivered throughout the country! A pack of this stuff makes a damn good gift (for yourself or someone else), and you’ll soon find that the recipient is hopelessly hooked.

It might be a little further out than the rest of these places, but we can firmly assure you that Ross Bakery Inn is absolutely worth the trip. It’s a beautifully rustic slice of idyllic country life, and the vanilla slice is genuinely regarded as one of the very best in the entire world. If that’s not enough of an incentive, it’s also one of the few bakeries we’ve encountered that’s licensed to serve a bit of bubbly with your dessert!
