Have a think – when was the last time spoiled yourself rotten? It’s probably long overdue. You deserve a treat every so often, so here are the best places in Sydney to relax, put your feet up, and indulge.
Beauty on a budget
Based down in arty Chippendale, Esstudio Galleria is a quirky funhouse of hair, nail, skin and massage treatments, where both women and men are welcome to partake. Fun and relaxed, with funky old-school décor and even a chandelier, you know your salon experience will be anything but boring. Stop by sometime for a quick blow-out, or even a “claws and paws” mani-pedi sesh. From a simple haircut to elaborate nail art, they can do it all. The staff are friendly, the treatments are top-notch, and even 20 minutes in the chair will have you feeling like a whole new person.
Spoil yourself at a spa
Fleur de Lys is one of our favourite spas in Sydney, and we’re sure you’ll love it too. It’s got all the luxury treatments you could want, from massages to facials to full body wraps, and plenty more besides. If you’re really in the mood for something special, go for the exotic Moroccan ‘Hammam’ experience. Escape the stress of daily life and let your aches fade away in an oasis of hot steam, eastern oils and perfumes. You’ll be scrubbed and cleansed and massaged from head to toe – just what you need to revitalise mind, body and soul.
“My partner surprised me with a visit here for my birthday. We got the Moroccan body scrub treatment first which was a fun experience. We lay on a slab of marble with running water over it whilst getting exfoliated with a very aromatic and relaxing scrub. I enjoyed the personalised experience and it was great being able to do it all with my partner in double rooms.” – Miss Forster
Fancy foodie treats
If sweet treats are your indulgence of choice, you need to head straight to Reynold Poer’s Koi Dessert Bar. This two-storeyed glass building is a beautiful setting for some serious flavour, and the ground floor patisserie café will see your sweet tooth overloaded with happiness. Head upstairs for a more formal fine dining experience, and definitely try the dessert degustation sometime! With menu items like the ‘Miso Sexy’ – with miso chocolate ganache, shortbread, butterscotch gelato, caramel and chocolate tuile – you’ll be in heaven.
“Koi has such a lovely atmosphere with fellow patrons eating desserts either in the dine in area upstairs or the courtyard grass area downstairs. All the desserts look great behind the display and while we didn’t see Reynold Poer himself, we got to enjoy his coconut mousse dessert on the biscuit base and layered chocolate cake. The dessert display is amazing and so vibrant! Would recommend!!” – Memes
Nourish the soul
Set in the tranquil bushland just outside Sydney, Billabong Retreat offers a wide range of yoga, meditation, mindfulness and wellness retreat programs. The resort-style setting is fabulous, with delicious buffet meals and a spa offering massages and facials on site. Plus, the 12-acre grounds are home to everything from wallabies to a host of exotic bird species. This place is the perfect spot to reconnect with nature, and you’ll walk away feeling mentally rejuvenated.
“Had an awesome weekend with a lovely bunch of people in an incredibly beautiful place. Great weekend to just get away from everything and relax. The teacher Donna has so much passion, Paul who runs the retreat is an incredibly nice person and the chef Mignon made delicious vegetarian food all weekend. I will most certainly be back!” – ChrissyMar
Splurge on a staycation
We all love a good staycation, and the glamorous QT hotel fits the bill perfectly for Sydneysiders. This 200-room venue is decked out in a striking blend of styles, incorporating everything from art deco curves to extravagant gothic furnishings. An ultra-modern experience dwells beneath the quirky surface, and you’ll be very well looked after at the restaurant, day spa and funky bar. Plus, it’s located right near shopping centres and the State Theatre, so you won’t be short of things to do!
“This place is sexy, sleek and quirky. Martinis in the cocktail bar were perfect and dinner in The Gowings Bar & Grill was delicious. The staff had a sense of humour and provided a good service.” – kymthedesigner
