What'sHappening-Brisbane

Brisbane’s full of wondrous delight this December!

Wonderland

Date: 3-20 December

Location: Brisbane Powerhouse

Wonderland’s all about the weird, the wacky and the way out there, with over two weeks of wicked entertainment (how’s that for alliteration?). The festival takes over the Brisbane Powerhouse this December, bringing you a veritable menagerie of shows ranging from cabaret, circus and burlesque performances to comedy, musical, theatre and poetry displays. It’s not all indoors, though, as Wonderland spills out of the Brisbane Powerhouse into the Wonderland Food Markets, where you can fill up before or after the show at one of the many food trucks stocked with delicious treats aplenty.

Abbey Museum is hosting its first ever open day this December, with FREE entry for an afternoon! Get your culture fix with international art and antiquities accompanied by an impromptu marketplace full of good stuff. If you’re anything like us and have no idea what to get your nearest and dearest this Christmas, Abbey Museum’s got just the thing for you. Get some boutique crafts and giftware for Mum, some Christmas cakes and goodies for Dad, and bring the little ones along for some festive fun in the form of a jumping castle, animal farm and a bunch of other fun activities.

Brisbane Vegan Festival

Date: 12 December

Location: The Brightside

Vegans, animal lovers and veg-curious folk unite! Hop along to the Brisbane Vegan Festival and you’re bound to learn a thing or two about healthy eating and healthy living. Learn from the best, including award-winning social justice filmmaker Keegan Kuhn and New York vegan chef Mary Mattern, who has proudly worn the personal chef badge for celebrities such as Ellie Goulding. This wholly hipster-approved event is all about raising awareness for animal rights and peace over violence (how could you say no to that?), as well as promoting socially-conscious living through scrumptious food and eco-friendly goods.

Christmas Fireworks Spectacular

Date: 17-21 December

Location: Clem Jones Promenade, South Bank

Who doesn’t love fireworks?! Okay, maybe not dogs and small children, but for the rest of us, the Christmas Fireworks Spectacular over South Bank is our chance to celebrate the festive season with a bang and some sparkle. Christmas comes early as the Clem Jones Promenade lights up over five days by a dazzling display of colour and sound. And if you want an even better view of the festivities, bring along the whole family and take a ride on The Wheel of Brisbane – children under 12 get to ride free on the night (if accompanied by an adult)!
