Canberra Glassworks

Kingston

When you’ve been dating for a while, it’s sometimes difficult to come up with new and unique date spots to check out. That’s where the Canberra Glassworks comes in. Imagine mind-blowing glass exhibitions and being able to watch master craftsmen at work shaping and moulding beautiful glass pieces. For a hands-on experience, you can even wield the power of hot molten glass and form your own glass paperweight or tumbler (although we wouldn’t recommend trying to recreate that scene from Ghost).

“This is an interesting place to visit. It’s right at the edge of the Kingston Art Precinct and easy to find. Entry is free, which is surprising. On the top level (up two short flights of stairs or take the lift) you can look down on the I fabulous craftsman at work in the HotBox studio. The red hot molten glass waits in the furnaces and the glass forms into shapes as you watch. Visitors are encouraged to have a go too – it’s great. There’s a gallery with items for sale and a cafe. It’s good.” – Ali-Hawk

Sample some of Canberra’s finest ales at the region’s only commercial-scale microbrewery at Zierholz. You and your date can do a brewery tour or have a beer tasting with Zierholz’s master brewer. Alternatively, why not take fate into your own hands by trying a sample paddle of the German-inspired range of ales? While it’s a casual, lo-fi date option, the atmosphere is warm and relaxed and there’s little pressure on either of you to do more than just chill and be yourselves.
