Sydney, you sure know how to sparkle, and winter is no exception. With some of the country’s hottest spots, we’ve found the most sizzling places to take a date when the weather goes south.
Whether you’re a pro skater or a complete novice, going to the Macquarie Ice Rink is always a top choice for a fun winter date. Feel like a blast from the past? Turn up on Friday nights for disco night, with a DJ playing all the hits that are inexplicably stored in the back of your mind (Mambo No 5, anyone?). At the end of the day, you and your date will be giggling like teenagers and just as in love.
“Macquarie Ice Rink is a bit of a favorite place to spend time with my children when the weather isn’t great outside. Pricing and session times are good and happy to enjoy a day on the ice.” – bmurray225
Sharing a fun experience makes for a much more enjoyable date than just silently watching a movie. At Salt Meats Cheese, there’s no better way to get to know someone than to spend the afternoon doing as the Italians do with fun pasta making, mozzarella making, and pizza making classes. Stick around after for a glass of wine or a cocktail, and enjoy the fruits of your labour (you get to eat the food you make)! If you want to extend your date after, wander around The Grounds and check out some of the awesome cafes within.
“The deli is awesome, has basically everything you need for a good home-cooked meal. Dining in is also a great idea, beautiful pizzas and calzones, and their Nutella bomb is a must-have for dessert!” – MM21
If you’re ever stuck for picking a place to go in Sydney for a last-minute date, then Miss Peaches is by far your best bet. There’s always something fun there, as well as specials throughout the week. Check out their rockabilly night and weekly hootenanny, gorge yourself on insanely good waffles on waffle Wednesday, or learn to swing dance or rock n roll dance like a pro with lessons on during the week. Whether your date’s into dinner or dancing, Miss Peaches has everything covered.
“Miss Peaches has it all… good music, tasty food and a sweet drinks menu. Highly recommend the espresso old fashion. I promise you will leave feeling pretty peachy….” – LWJ_2210
Score yourself some indie bonus points for going to this underground artist-run performance space! Places showcasing original music is becoming increasingly rare in Sydney, so rather than hearing the pub cover band play Brown Eyed Girl for the eight-millionth time, head to 505 for a musical breath of fresh air. Get there early to snag yourself a couch, where you get snuggle up to your date as you go off on a musical adventure together.
“One of Sydney’s best jazz clubs. Probably my favourite. Live music 6 nights a week, brilliant regular musicians in for shows and jam sessions, and they attract a stellar line up of artists for their ticketed shows. But besides the big name events it’s also a cozy place for the muso crowd early in the week. Go support quality live music in town by checking out 505.”- livvie
As one of Sydney’s last venues left that can actually stay open to all hours of the evening (and next morning) Rock Lily is the place to get your party on, especially if your date is the kind of person who loves dancing well into the night and as the sun starts to rise. Local and international acts are constantly streaming through the intimate venue, as well as regular comedy nights, trivia nights, reggae nights, and, with enough tequila, karaoke nights.
