Good food and coffee, with vegetarian options. The decor is unusually interesting for a Canberra region cafe. I've been there several times and never had bad service, but it can sometimes be a little slow. The biggest problem it that you have to book on a weekend mid-morning. Until there are more competitors in the area, it is probably best to avoid it at busy times.
When we were there for breakfast, we were told that there is a table turn around time of 1.5 hrs. We were told to finish off our food and leave as soon as possible. We were shock as we were not told of this when we made the book nor were we told when we made the order. The food took a very long time to come to the table which was part of the reason why we were there for a long time. The waiter acknowledged and apologised for this but insisted that the 1.5 hrs was a policy they have. We were very disappointed. So, if you would like to have a 1.5 hrs meeting in this restaurant, please keep in mind that you will be kicked out.
Expect a mish-mash of furniture and a laidback attitude to customer service. If you can handle waiting a little longer and aren't in a rush this cafe is worth it. Not your usual cafe fodder it offers plenty of interesting dishes, catering to vegetarians too. Plenty of kitsch decor add to the relaxed mood.
I ordered a cake and coffee here recently, both of which were very nice. Service was a bit average, and I found the quite rude signs up telling customers where to go if they are impatient or have noisey children quite off putting. Certainly didn't make me feel welcome. But they have won awards, so I suppose there is no shortage of customers.
