BBQ King is such a food institution in Sydney. Always a great place for a late night feed. Located on Liverpool Street near Chinatown. After meeting some friends for drinks, it was getting late and needed something that was quick and simple to eat. Walked past here and harking back to my childhood where a plate of rice with bbq meats were a staple, I decided I wanted to have some tonight. I was greeted at the front door quite quickly and seated immediately. A complimentary pot of tea and bowl of soup were presented to me. I decided to get the Spring Roll and B.B.Q. Pork, Roast Duck And Rice. The spring rolls had a vegetarian filling and served with a plum sauce. The pork was delicious with a nice red glaze, the duck was nice but slightly boney and rice was seasoned with soy sauce which was nice. It was also served with some greens. Overall slightly more expensive than what you pay in the burbs but definitely worth a try if you're in the area.
Finding BBQ King's new location was like running into an old friend. I have very fond memories of late-night BBQ duck feasts. Our customary Peking Duck ($14/2 pieces) arrives almost simultaneously, and I’m pleased to report, the fat, juicy slabs of duck still number among Sydney’s best. I salivate watching them manoeuvred onto pliable pancakes, with the customary spring onion, red chilli and hoisin. The ducks hang in a shiny new curved window facing onto Liverpool Street, in the site of the old Spanish Club. While you can order takeaway on the ground floor, if you’re eating in, you’ll be enjoying your heaped plate of gleaming Roast Duck and BBQ Pork ($38.80) in the split-level, 200-seat dining room upstairs. Biting into the duck’s crisp skin releases an explosion of well rendered, flavoursome fat into your mouth. Balance it with a healthy plate of Braised Fried Tofu with Mushrooms and Vegetables ($18.80) and some Special Fried Rice ($12) and you’re eating theread more
This place was so busy and the front entrance looks quite unassuming until you look up and level from the street and see all the guests dining inside! We got the seafood pancake for entrees and it was so tasty I could of had it for my main as well. The seafood was soft and not too chewy. I really liked the sides they had here especially the boiled and marinaded sweet potato. We were really happy with the marinaded meat and seafood we ordered to BBQ. The marinade was really delicious and well balanced in flavour! It's such a great place for family and groups of friends to eat! We really enjoyed ourselves!
