It appears that they have a regular customer base, it is unclear how they keep this customer base; clearly none of their regulars are coeliac or gluten intolerant. I have been there a couple of times, once since newer owners allegedly took over in the hope things would improve. They had not. The menu had not changed, has not changed in about 10 years. The staff still had the same unpleasant, disinterested attitude. The service was quite poor; I had to wait an additional 20 min for my meal after my friend's lunch had arrived even though we ordered together. And when I ordered, the waitress didnt even know what gluten free bread was. No comment. Fortunately I am only moderately gluten intolerant and not a strict coeliac like many other Colac residents so I did find something that only made me mildly ill afterwards. I will not be returning to this venue. I feel its a great shame because there is a lot of potential for a fantastic cafe/restaurant at this site.
Colac is pretty limited with good dining options. I've eaten here a couple of times over the past year and most recently this week. The meals are good country pub type size and there are various options. The setting is pretty basic and service is friendly. I think it's pretty good value and is frequented by the locals which is a good sign.
I ordered the calamari with chips and salad and there was raw meat in the salad. I raised this with the waitress who returned from speaking with the chef explaining they had no idea how it got there but it wasn't chicken. No apologies, no replacement of the salad I couldn't eat. Nothing. My advice would be to avoid this place
