Located in the heart of Sydney, DeVine restaurant is popular for its tasty modern Australian cuisine and generous portion sizes. The wine bar adds to the chic and inviting atmosphere offering a good selection of vino to accompany your meal, or enjoy on its own to unwind after work.
Every time I passed DeVine, I used to think that this place was just a typical pub where CBD office worker bees frequent after a hard days work. That was until I was made aware that it is actually an Italian restaurant. Having seen its good reviews on the net, my friend and I decided to pay a visit. When you first entered the place, it indeed felt like your usual Australian pubs high tables, stools, and bars like usual. But behind it was one secluded, albeit exclusive dining area with low light atmosphere owing some brightness to the sun shine coming in from the large old vintage windows at the end of the restaurant. We were spoiled for choice by the food offerings on the menu, not because they were an exhausted list of everything Italian, but some of them are of highly curated, specialised dishes we hardly find anywhere else. For entre, I ordered the cured trout & crabmeat salad with crisp wild rocket, and we picked it right. It was by far the most delicious saladread more
I visited with a few girl friends on a Friday night. The venue has a nice sophisticated atmosphere. There is plenty of indoor seating and a few tables on the pavement out front. Im not a wine drinker but my companions seemed to like the range. Service was polite and friendly. We didnt eat, just had drinks.
Though I have had pizza here a few times, I wouldn't call it a restaurant as much as a wine bar which serves food. Though I am giving it four stars, I totally disagree with the description above stating "generous portion sizes" as when I am here and see those around me eating, the sizes are tiny. Needless to say the wine selection here is close to the best in Sydney. The selection from around the world is worth the visit. I always start with a Riesling, another white and then move onto the reds. I would go into specifics, but obviously they can change from month to month. I would suggest not to be afraid to ask questions as the waiters will always steer you in the right direction. But to be honest I don't think they have a bad wine to choose from anyway, so it's not like it makes their job difficult or anything. Yeah they have beers for those people's palate is so inclined. Simply put, don't expect to had a great meal here, do expect a great selection of wines and you shouldn't beread more
