For a Christmas catch-up with some mates I thought we'd try this out - right next to the train station, handy location. Glad I chose it, because it was a great night. Have to say the dining room isn't much to write about size & 'feel'-wise (though there is a nice kids playground in-built), but we got in without a booking fine. Staff could probably do with a bit more of the friendliness-type feel too.
However what made the night great was the food. They specialise in Schnitzels of all manner, you can choose what type & size of schnitzel and let me warn you now that unless you haven't eaten in a week then the 'mega' is not for you! I got the middle size, I don't fill easily but was very full at the end. Toppings were hard to choose from as there were so many great choices, I settled on yiros which was a good choice though there was so much meat I couldn't believe it! A friend ...read more
This pub has been one of my locals for as long as I can remember, and even though there are two other pubs in Salisbury this has always been the one I have been drawn towards. I guess it is because for a time it was a pretty quiet place where I could sit with a beer and read a book, and that the staff were always friendly (okay, I also knew one of the managers). There was a time when there is a pretty decent club here but those days are long gone, though in recent times that have added a House of Schnitzel restaurant where you have have a schnitzel with a huge assortment of toppings. The Yiros Schnitzel that I had wasn't all that bad, though I still prefer it plain with gravy. Okay, it certainly isn't a pub that one should travel to visit, but it is a decent pub nonetheless. Oh, and they have also recently added an outdoor area with seats.
Friday, 4th October - I called at 6pm to make a booking tonight, they said they were booked out at present but we were welcome to come in and wait for a table, so we decided to head in at around 7:30pm (dinner from 5:30 to 8:00pm) so I knew the biggest rush should have been over.
Once we arrived at 7:40pm and we're greeted by a wait staff who quickly said they were not taking any more orders and it was impossible that someone told us we could come in when they were booked out etc. I said we wouldn't have come if there was no possibility of obtaining a table. They mentioned that they had a huge function and food was an hour away. Meanwhile my 2 year old was happily playing in the playground while this was happening. We ended up feeling ...read more
It was Easter Monday public holiday and I didn't feel like cooking. So my partner and I decided to check out the 'house of schnitzels'. It's been a couple of years since we had been to Eureka Tavern, looks nicer now inside. They have an indoor playground for the kids, interior of the dining area was nicely set out and the fact they still do a salad bar was good to see (a lot of pubs these days, that we've been to anyways, seem to be phasing out the good ol' salad bars)! The service was good, but the schnitzels we ordered however were not so, we found them to be very very oily, when we lifted our schnitzels it was laying in oil. Unfortunately, we didn't end up finishing them, we just couldn't. I did enjoy the hot chips though and the salad bar! Maybe one day we will come back to try something else on the menu besides the schnitzels.
