My wife and I have been to the Garlic Clove on 4 occasions over the past 2 years. It is one of our favourite restaurants on the Gold Coast. The menu is extensive, variegated and delicious. However, it is not your typical french menu comprising small portions that leave you wanting to grab a kebab on the way home. It's home-style cooking in portions designed to satisfy an Australian's appetite and the set 3-course menu represents great value for money. The staff are consistently efficient and friendly. You won't be disappointed.
The whole Emerald Lakes complex always looked so fake I was scared to really go there for anything as I'd be expecting over-priced tack to fit the feeling of the place. Upon suggestion of a friend I went to the Garlic Clove with my partner on a Saturday night during the summer. We got a great seat out on the terrace overlooking the lake to give it a real French Alfresco feeling like you do in France. The set meal idea is usually a trap but we were blown away by the quality and size of the meals. The service was great and we met the owner when we left as we were the last ones out who was very friendly. I would recommend anybody whole like French cuisine to visit The Garlic Clove, but make sure you book ahead as it's very popular. Not sure what the previous guy is on about service as we went back again a few weeks back on a Friday night and the service was good again. Maybe Sunday mornings are not the best time?
