Established in 1967, Gus's Cafe has since become a Canberra institution. When Gus emigrated from Vienna in the 60's he brought a slice of home with him; continental outdoor dining in a relaxed and open environment in the heart of the city.

This relaxed cafe is spread across three alternative seating environments - inside, in a streetside gazebo or outside. It's informal with reliable food. Service can be a bit chaotic and I'd advise you to pay attention as mistakes can be made. Drinks seem to take ages, but food isn't too long. I've had a couple of visits. Salads, bruschetta and sandwiches are all fine.
This is a very relaxed and welcoming cafe. The environment is conducive to a leisurely visit and the atrium area is really pleasant. I enjoyed some Sourdough with vine-ripened tomatoes and a Grilled Marinated Chicken Salad for dinner. Both were very nice, perhaps a little heavy on the olive oil for my taste, but otherwise good.
