Fantastic place to go and view/interact with native Australian animals. We went during the school holidays so it was pretty busy with large groups of kids running around however, you'd probably have the whole place to yourself if you went during the school term. We got to pat wallabies during feeding time and seeing the platypuses were cool too. Overall a really memorable day and money well spent.
We were just here over the weekend, finally decided to spend a day trip here as it takes almost 1hour and half from our home location. Quite a pleasant drive, given the nice warm 28 degrees Melbourne weather. This Zoo offers only Australian animals all in the one location, it was easy to move around and didnt really require a map as its one huge circle. Whats nice about this Zoo are the options to have a BBQ inside the Zoo, lots of picnic tables or options of brining picnic blanket as plenty of grassland. I didnt find that they had plenty of animals to see compared to the other 2 Zoos. What I was quite impressed with was their parent room facility, its modern, options of adult toilet and toddler, compared to the other major Zoo this isnt even available, it was clean also. For a very long trip I would have liked to have seen more, but can now check off the list.
I finally decided to do a road trip to take my son to Healesville Sanctuary. About a 2 hour drive from home so we left early. My son was excited as he loves seeing animals. It must have been the weather and also school holidays but the zoo was busy. We had an annual pass so didn't need to line up. Healesville Sanctuary had more wildlife Australian animals. I didn't find this zoo particularly interesting or enjoyable. Was hard to see a lot of the animals as given the warm weather they were sleeping hidden somewhere. I good thing i thought was engaging for children is the staff bringing out reptiles so you can pat and talk about. There was a lot of walking around but very little to see. I think a lot of improvement and looking forward to the opening of the koala section.
Awesome zoo, great place to take tourists from other countries to see Australian animals. We always have a good time here. We even got to see a dingo puppy going for a walk with a zoo keeper to get her used to her environment and she came up and sniffed my daughter. My daughter was delighted to be chosen by the puppy, it made her day.
