On a fine sunny day
(In fact my BIRTHday)
I went to the Hilton hotel for my lunch
Steak of course is what I ordered
Because here I've heard it lauded
As the best steak in Adelaide.
And it just might be - it was certainly tasty
Although honestly the gravy was a little past-ey
But the chips made up with a great big crunch!
I had a lovely cool cocktail too, Long Island Iced Tea
'Twas the barmans suggestion when I did ask He
And it was a good one, lovely and fresh and cool.
So I give it 4 stars out of five
Were it not so pricey it'd be more though I am a bit of a skive
I'll certainly be back even so.
while it has been recently done up to meet the new "modern" crowd of pub followers, this certainly looks amazing and warm and friendly. however the staff were pretty care free and didnt have that WOW factor. they werent very nice and friendly at all. the food was amazing - and good value. the share plate however, the pork tasted awful and was basically inedible. the crackling was great. but the pork its self was the worst i've ever been served.
all other meals were wonderful, and all servings were consistent with a large serving. everything else was cooked well. some prices were excellent, while others seemed pretty highly priced.
Since I have had friends that live in this part of Adelaide I have found myself regularly visiting this pub for both drinks and a decent schnitzel (which I simply am unable to find in Melbourne). I remember when it was a gritty suburban pub which only catered for the locals, but over time it has transformed into a trendy inner-city bar with a decent restaurant and a night-club that blasts out tunes on a Friday and Saturday night. Even my most recent visit (the first time in over a year) has revealed even more changes, such as craft beer on tap and making one of the beer gardens a non-smoking area. This pub has certainly transformed itself into trendy destination for those who do not want to make the trek into Adelaide, but then I suspect that has a lot to do with the changing dynamics of the inner-city.
A bunch of friends and I were in the area for a show and decided we would pop in to the Hilton Hotel afterwards for a drink, a dance and TOASTIES!! Yup, toasties! They sell ham and cheese toasties in the weeeee hours of the night inside the gaming/bar area! My tummy was very happy at 1am in between dancing :)
