It is a bright little shopfront that looks like a simple cafe at first glance, but at closer inspection has put together a very smart little menu of part-Italian, part-Greek, cross-hatched and intricately threaded dishes that for want of a signpost probably would head toward being called contemporary Mediterranean. By day the dining space is pure casual lunch interior with polished concrete floor, containing a glass window down into an old cellar, bare blond-timber tables lifted into a good comfort zone with linen napkins, large windows looking out to the street, benches under them for spreading out the paper, work gear and plates, of course. On the open nights, a bit more atmosphere is brought out with tablecloths and tea lights. Other ambients are in place, too, with several large connected art works, laid back and softly-volumed music, a comfortable lounge and table corner, yet with a focus of energy centred on a genuine open kitchen hole in the back wall. Jam the Bistro is worth the walk. It's a genuinely smart, modern kitchen that is able to capture a fresh and energetic way with many Mediterranean ...read more
My wife and I had a Scoopon booking for lunch and after reading the previous reviews, from Scoopon customers, I was expecting the worst but nothing could have been further from the truth. The staff were very friendly and helpful at all times and we were made to feel welcome. The meal was excellent and the wine kept flowing. They delivered eveything the Scoopon voucher said they would. The main course was a little slow in coming but being fully booked out (with many other Scoopon customers), I can forgive them for that. We would be more than happy to eat there again.
I contacted Jam the Bistro on a large number of occasions from when I received the scoopon in February, right up to July. Every time I attempt to make a booking, they are booked out for weeks in advanced or are not accepting scoopons for the times I request. On my last phone call to Jam the Bistro, the staff was very rude and told me that they will not accept our scoopon as they have already made a massive loss by taking part in the scoopon deal.
Ultimately, I paid for an item that was supplied, and despite my numerous phone calls and complaints, I still did not received what I have paid for.
I work around the corner from Jam the Bistro and the firm I work for will go there from time to time for work lunches or client lunches. I must say I will never go there ever again, and will not be recommending to any clients or workmates.
I purchased my scoopon voucher for this make shift restaurant a few months ago. It took about 6-8 weeks to get a table due that they didnt want to many scoopon vouches in one night. Sorry but if you dont want to many people come to your restaurant dont go on scoopon. The food, well i have had better beef in a schnitzel then i had with the so call steak dish. The servings were very small and not very appealing. I would not visit this place again and would highly recommend people to do the same.
I purchased 2 scoopons for Jam earlier in the year (Feb) and just got around to booking. I was disappointed that the lady who spoke to me was rude and I got the impression they didn't want me to book with a scoopon. I was told that the restaurant is booked out until August and I could only book for lunch Monday to Friday. The scoopon runs out in July and I can't use it now as I work Monday to Friday. So I wonder if you're reading this Jam staff , can you help me make a booking for evening or weekend, and can I speak to someone nice? It doesn't take much to give good customer service!
I was recently at Jam with my husband and some friends and it was pretty obvious that they didn't want to serve us because we were there on a Scoopon. They had 'lost' our booking and the staff behind the counter was just plain rude about it.
Not one staff member ever apologised for their mistake or offered to book us for a different night. When we asked for our money back she went and got the head chef/owner who proceeded to have a go at us in front of all the other diners (!). In the end we left without eating and in shock at the rude way in which we were treated, our night was completely ruined. We will not be returning under any circumstances and I doubt any of the other diners from that night will either. If you don't treat EVERY customer with respect I don't know how you can expect to stay in business.
