John Montagu
Named after the man claimed to have invented the sandwich, John Montagu cafe aims to re-invent it. No more pre-wrapped sandwiches, everything is made to order with locally sourced produce. From salmon straight from the sea and beef braised in house stock for 12 hours, you're gonna love every bite!
John Montagu is indeed one of a few good brunch spots in Sydney and I can definitely confirm it. Having repeatedly heard about the good things about this place, I finally visited this medium sized but spacious cafe-style establishment on a Saturday afternoon.
The place has a quite a humble atmosphere, with nothing fancy a few simple elements (such as magazines, flower and vase) put in the right place to make the shop feel alive. The brunch-type dishes that they offer are pretty much the main event. They have beautiful presentation, come with large serving sizes, tasted fresh, and came quite quickly without too much wait.
A few things though: the beef cheeks sandwich featured a powerful sweet sauce, whilst the salmon dish came with slightly over-flavoured pepper taste which did not go well with my tastebud.
The staffs were courteous and attentive. She checked up on us during the meals which is always a good sign of great service.
