The word Kakawa originally comes from the South American
Olmec civilization and dates back to roughly 1000 BC. well before the Aztecs and Mayans
The Olmec were the first civilization to cultivate cocoa beans and called them Kakawa
They grew their cocoa plants on the luscious east coast of Mexico.
Much mystery still surrounds these origins¡¦.
The arrival of the Spanish Armada lead to the name Kakawa being changed to ¡°Cacao¡±

This is my favourite Sydney chocolatier. I go for their bags of single origin chocolates with their honeycomb looking pattern (made from bubblewrap). Who knew chocolate from different places could have so many different notes it it? I still remember tasting gingerbread in the Madagascan single origin chocolate I bought to take home. They also make a ripper rocky road that's got the expected marshmallows plus roasted almonds, hazelnuts, freeze dried raspberries, pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds.
