Love this little patisserie. The hit is of course their strawberry lychee cake but I also love the chocolate cloud cake, kalamansi & rhubarb pie. I have heard a lot about their NY cheesecake so tried it on my latest visit. It was the lightest and fluffiest NY cheesecake I have had with a very distinct lemon flavour and ginger crumbed base. It was enjoyable but not a traditional NY cheesecake. Service is efficient & robotic.
Lorraine Godsmark is a Lorraine godsend. The tiny little patisserie smells divine and it's great to see that they've dedicated most of the space to the kitchen. A small little counter and window displays on two sides of the shop boast a selection of perfectly crafted cakes and pastries.
I pick up a lemon tart and the Bert's Beef Pie - technically not from Lorraine - it is an Alex Woolley (of est.) creation that is available across a number of the Merivale establishments.
Both are absolutely delicious. The beef pie has a perfect pastry with a soft, tender beef filling. No soggy bottoms for our mate Bert. I got tomato sauce with it but it really didn't need it at all.
The lemon tart is not too sour or sweet - just the way life should be.
