I still love stopping by McGuigan’s and highly recommend their member’s club.
Benefits include a private tasting area, exclusive members only wines to taste, a cheese platter and free shipping.
With the cheese shop next door its a great place to stop for supplies and create your own picnic in the Hunter.
This is one of the most popular places to do a wine tasting – I tend to visit this winery every visit, and tend to also buy the same dessert wine (the one in the blue bottle).
The tasting sizes are generous, and the staff have always been helpful in teaching the art of wine tasting.
I love the wine accessories here too – wine classes, wine gadgets etc. Great presents for the wine lover (or for me!)
Also love the cheese shop outside. Wine & cheese; the perfect Hunter weekend!
On the corner of Broke and McDonald roads, in the Hunter Valley wine region, sits Mcguigan Wines one of the worlds best winemakers and some of the best wines I have had the pleasure of tasting. Their cellar door is expansive. As a group of 20 we sat around a big table surrounded by barrels of wine to our left and behind identical hut-like tables which filled the large warehouse style room. We did a group tasting led by a very knowledgable and enthusiastic gentleman named Joel. We got to taste 12 of McGuigan's award-winning wines and were walked through an indepth history of the vines for each wine. Each wine was so aromatic and flavoursome. There was a Semillon which tasted exactly like honey, a dark cherry Cabernet Merlot and, my personal favourite, the Gewurztraminer which had distinct lychee flavours. The entire tasting was an experience from start to finish, and a great one at that. So good that we walked away with one of each wine weread more
I always make a point of stopping at McGuigans when in the Hunter. It's a great Cellar door with lots of variety, merchandise, wine, cheese, tours and snacks. I've been a member of the club for some years which also offers good discounts, and the boxes of wine can be shipped home. Worth a stop.
