Melbourne Airport is a very modern and large international airport. The terminals are quite spaced out depending on where you are flying. The shopping the the domestic Qantas terminal isn't as exciting. The new T4 for budget airlines which includes Jetstar is very good and has a large selection of food.
I just returned back from overseas recently and on this occasion utilized their long term carpark facility. The booking process is quite straightforward online to pre book the vehicle. You need to put the credit card at the entrance on arrival and exit and not collect a ticket. You’re provided with a 1 hour grace period from the time of booking the entrance time. Parking is generally ok, if you know where you’re driving too as you could be driving around in circles for a bit to locate a parking spot. The bus that comes to pick up passengers runs every 4 minutes and are quite efficient, I’ve not found having to wait more than a few minutes on each time I’ve used this service whether it’s arriving there or returning. Highly recommend the long term parking facility and suggest to book in advance for savings.
Having the opportunity to travel extensively to many parts of the world I must say theres some room for improvement with the Melbourne Airport. Firstly, its probably the only airport I could recall in which you need to pay $3 for a trolley when departing, although its free on arrival. Simply doesnt make sense having to pay this amount, when the airport parking is already expensive as it is. The service should be free just like all other airports around Australia and other parts of the world. The variety of places to eat/dine is ok, more options would be great. They should also provide free WIFI like most other airports around the world. On a positive note, most airlines that Ive checked in whether international or domestic the staff have been nice, although I have had my own share of a staff simply just giving me a tough time for been over .5-1 kilo over. Overall, have had positive experience and most have been accommodating in terms of traveling with an infant.
