I took in my late mothers locket to be repaired after another jeweller recommended me to Menzies. The original jeweller said it needed a new loop on the locket & a new clasp. Menzies agreed. Both jewellers inspected the chain & the locket with there magnifying glass. I agreed to repairs. I later received a call saying it also needed 2 rings on the chain as the original ones were worn & it's not worth fixing if I don't do that too. The price now went from $155 to $265. I said no to the extra links as I found another chain to put the locket on. When I picked it up I had to pay the $155 as they had already replaced the clasp. The lady then showed me where the jeweller said it needed fixing. I could see the break with my own eyes so I believe that they broke the rings & tried to get me to pay for new ones. If 2 jewellers had previously looked with a magnifying glass & these broken rings were not seen then obviously it was done by the jewellers themselves. Also whe I ...read more
My wife was left her Nanna's engagement ring to her when her Nanna passed away. The ring was over 80 years old. It still had all its stones however the ring was in need of repair. Basically 80 years had taken its toll. She took it to Menzies. This was in 2010. My wife was more than happy with the work. The stones reset and the filigree was repaired. Now after 5 years one of the smaller stones fell out. Naturally we lodged an insurance claim. As part of the claim she took to the recommended jeweller. The jeweller is a very reputable Adelaide jeweller. So the insurance jeweller told my wife the stone fell out due to poor workmanship. They offered to fix it for $100. Now the excess for the insurance claim is $100. So naturally the next port of call was to take the ring back to Menzies. When we walked in my wife was pleasant. The shop assistant was also pleasant. She looked the ring over and said she'll take it to "Linda" to look at. She then came back and said they ...read more
I have been shopping at Menzies Jewellers for many years, today was my last day. Over four weeks ago I dropped off four rings to be resized prior to going on holiday. I returned to pick them up and two of the rings had been resized to the wrong size. I was told that the staff member who had served me was new and had made a mistake. My rings were not ready to take away on holidays, disappointed. Returned yesterday to pick them up. Took them home, put them on this morning, looked down as I was driving to see that a diamond was missing. I took it straight back in and I was told that I must have damaged the ring and that they would not repair my engagement ring. The Jeweller would not come out and speak with me herself but hid in the back room. I am devastated. My ring has been with them for over a month, and yet I have caused the damage and they are not responsible. I will no longer use this store or recommend them to anyone. I have always been a ...read more
