If you read all the press youd think this place would be a Port Douglas institution. Theres a fair bit of online buzz about Mockas so when I was in Port Douglas I had to try them out. So they do have a substantial variety of pies, most being stock standard fare, others are outside of the norm. They are priced competitively, at the higher end of the scale but if the quality is there, then it would be worth it I thought. I bought a traditional steak pie. Thought Id go with the original. The pastry was light and flaky, the meat tender. For my liking, for what is touted as gourmet pies, the steak wasnt chunky enough & overall I thought it lacked some tenderness. More gravy required for my liking! I had a try of the crocodile pie as an example of a different pie. Again, the pastry was top notch. The crocodile meat was tender, but overall it lacked that zing, not enough flavour is how Id summarise it. Look if you are after a meat pie & dont want a boring mass produced pie, definitelyread more
