When we got here, there was a 5 min wait at the line as we only had a table of two. We ordered the spring onion pancake, the XLBs and the stir fried noodles. It took a while for the dishes to come out for the XLB and the noodles. We then had to wait for the spring onion pancake to come out and when it did, we got spring rolls instead. Staff had an attitude and did not apologise for the wrong order and was rude. Not a good experience.
New Shanghai at Westfield Sydney is recently open. It occupies a medium size, slightly compact floor area on the basement level, away from the upper level food court area.
The place is pretty much filled with seats, so it can feel slightly less spacious although the moving room is still acceptable.
We ordered plenty of dishes that night. The turnip with jellyfish was a cold dish and was a quite exciting dish to start with.
The cold noodles with drunken chicken was also as exciting. It had a very flavoursome sauce and the noodle was a little stickier than usual. The stir fried clams with xo sauce dish was nicely cooked and flavoured, and the crispy tofu with salted egg yolk was delicious and is a must try.
The red bean pancake was very different than how the dish was supposed to be like. It was more like a deep fried bun than crepe-like.
The staffs were busy but still managed to be quite attentive.
Drool-worthy dumplings? Yes please!

Great food, great service, great ambience. Branched off the extremely popular New Shanghai in Ashfield, I had the expectation of the same high quality and they certainly delivered. The dumplings are always the best here but it's also worthwhile trying out other items on the menu including the rainbow beef and prawns in salted egg yolk!
