What a disappointment! I hadn't been there for a year or so since a few visits after they took over from Portofino, and it was terrible then too! I thought I would give them the benefit of the doubt, but nothing had improved.
Staff could not understand the basics of what they were doing, and we had a lot of trouble communicating.
The food was just awful; pasta that was swimming in oil, and a tuna dish that was just a massive slab of dry, tasteless fish and a huge pile of mixed lettuce.
It was such a comedy of errors we just had to laugh.
Their wine was quite good; I will give them that much!
Don't waste your time going here though.
This is a fantastic place to savour genuine Italian food and desserts. Everything was absolutely perfect and I can't wait to go back! I haven't had the breakfast but I hear it's very good. The pizzas are delicious and cooked to perfection. So many delicious things to try.
I've had a good experience here. I wasn't feeling like a pizza but after seeing another customer order it and smelling it I couldn't resist myself. The dough of the pizza was perfect and complimented with a generous amount of topping. Would love to come back and try other pizzas.
Having been to this cafe on a number of occasions I have never seem to have ordered any cake. There servings are always quite large that I cant seem to find room to fit any more in. Over the weekend we celebrated my mother and sisters birthday on saturday in which i ordered a box of Cannoli mixed of custard and chocolate. Everyone loved them!! the size were perfect, the pastries was crispy, the custard and chocolate was just divine. Let's just say they didn't last long on the table unlike the actual birthday cake. Definitely recommend their sweets simply just dropping by for coffee/cake or to order. They have a wide selection as photos attached. Great thing about Pane e Tulipani, after a nice brunch/lunch the beach Port Melbourne is only within walking distance otherwise they are on the main drag of Bay Street in which there are so many shops to explore and continue enjoying the area.
