Questacon - The National Science & Technology Centre

Welcome to Questacon, Australia's National Science and Technology Centre. Questacon is a world leader in developing and presenting inspiring science experiences.

Questacon - The National Science and Technology Centre and our numerous outreach programs are administered within the Australian Government Department of Industry, Innovation, Science, Research and Tertiary Education (DIISRTE).

At Questacon, we strive to promote greater understanding and awareness of science and technology within the community. We're committed to making that experience fun, interactive, and relevant.

We opened our Centre in Canberra in 1988, with half of the initial $20 million construction cost paid for by a generous grant from Japan.

Today, our director, Professor Graham Durant, leads a team of over 200 staff members as well as an additional 150 or so volunteer Explainers.

Each year, we welcome 400 000 visitors to our Centre in Canberra, while another 700 000 see our exhibitions in other museums and centres around Australia and overseas. Our numerous Outreach Programs take to the roads each year, visiting an additional 300 000 in towns and communities across the country.

Between the generous support of our sponsors and other sources of revenue, we're able to do all this on an annual budget of approximately $20

Great place for kids of all ages to learn everything about science and more! Super interactive, fun and enjoyable...even for us big kids. Perhaps wouldn't have paid as much as we paid to get in though. Totally recommend for families with kids of all ages when visiting Canberra.

Very interactive and fun for kids and adults alike. I really enjoyed the periodic table of elements which had actual examples of what each of the elements looked like and were used for. Canberra isn't the most interesting city, so it is good that there's something like this here, but I have been to better science museums with more than pressing buttons to see what happens

Although this place is unique, it's ageing and I don't think it's really worth the high entrance fee (around $70 for a family). We discovered a reasonable number of the attractions were under repair or renovation, and others were just a bit plain. Disappointing, as it was to be our 'big thing' to do while in Canberra, but after only about 2 hours we (2 adults & 2 kids) just got bored and left.

It's not that it's a bad place - there is lots to see, and some stuff that you couldn't do elsewhere - it's just that if you're not all that into the science type world then a lot of the displays etc feel the same as each other. And it's in need of a facelift.

Highly recommend! We could have spent two days here! Excellent design, amazing exhibits, endless entertainment. My two kids had the best day (we still rave about it now). The cafe wasn't thrilling but I won't let that spoil my review, as you could bring your own food. Questacon is an absolute must-see if you visit Canberra!

Very practical and educational for everyone, particularly children! I will never forget how much fun I had at this place, or the science I learnt from every floor I visited. The souvenir shop is also amazing and everything you look at, touch and read is fascinating! Never forget to visit this place on travelling to canberra!
