The Ramsgate has been one of those must visit pubs everytime I found myself down at Henley Beach, which was quite often on those really hot days when I used to live in Adelaide. Located on Henley Square it is the perfect location to visit after a swim at the beach, or a meal on one of those Saturday nights when you don't have anything else to do. Okay, I can't say I was a regular, but that's because I never lived on the beach, but I've been here quite a few times. I came back here on my recent visit to Adelaide and little has changed it's still one of those really cool pubs for the young and young at heart. I did discover a beer garden out the back, but the best spot has always been out the front (which is one of the few pubs where sitting out the front on the roadside is pretty cool).
A group of us had lunch at the front bar on a Sunday afternoon following a hike from the city. I was very pleased to find my favourite cider on tap (Barossa Squashed Apple Cider) and I think I had the best fish and chips that I can remember with a perfect rocket and pear salad. Lost half a star only because the service was lacking a little - our meals came out at unreasonably different times and we were not advised we had to find our own cutlery. Definitely recommend for the food and drinks.
We arrived for lunch on a Saturday afternoon at 1pm, we would have liked to sit outside but in the glaring sun there was no shade, although they had umbrellas , there were 3 of them to share at 8 tables, one umbrella was completely out of place and pointless where it was, unable to move it as other diners had moved their umbrellas convieniently to shade their own table.
Boom, first bad point and lack of consideration. More out door umbrellasread more
