There really arent enough vegan places in St Kilda and Sister of Soul certainly addresses that need. They do a great soy or coconut cappuccino and have lots to choose from. They also cater to gluten free and allergies if they can. Friendly staff and a nice atmosphere.
We first visited St Kilda during a long weekend trip to see the fairy penguins at St Kilda Pier. Despite experiencing less-than-ideal weather during our first trip, we managed to brighten our day by visiting a vegan restaurant called Sister of Soul. It turned out to be so good that, on my recent solo trip to Melbourne, I decided to come all the way to St Kilda again just to try it! Luckily, the weather was much more forgiving; the surrounding area turned out to be disarmingly beautiful on a sunny day.
I ordered the Udon Noodle Sister Stir-fry. This amazing bowl of stir-fried udon was presented with a colourful array of veggies topped with black sesameread more
I was pleased to discover improvement in the menu selections and dishes on my last visit. Prices were reasonable and each dish carefully prepared with fresh ingedients. It was definitely better than my last visit and service was excellent. It's a pleasant venue, full of light and nicely furnished and it's good for small groups.
I was a patron of Soul Mama, the great vegetarian restaurant on the St Kilda foreshore that closed down some time ago so I came to Sister of Soul with great expectations. The space is bright and filled with warm timber and staff is super-friendly and helpful. The food is freshly cooked from fresh ingredients. Unfortunately, on both occasions now I have found the food to be rather bland and some dishes were misnomers, like the Singapore noodles which were actually Pad Thai noodles. The Massaman curry was watery. The salads are probably the best bet with loads of fresh produce. I support the ethos of healthy vegetarian eating but vegetarian food need not be boring stodge without flavour. So many dishes from around the world are vegetarian and are delicious! They haven't got it right yet but I'm hoping they will. At least they don't serve fake meats like many vegetarian places!
