We took our 7 yo cocker spaniel to this clinic last week at around 11pm. She was breathing heavily and seemed very uncomfortable. She was taken into the surgery and we were called in 20 mins or so later. We could see her from the consulting room in an oxygen enclosure. The vet said she had heart disease and they could keep her overnight and treat her. This would cost about $2400. Another option suggested was euthanasia.
They recommended not taking her home however we decided if she was going to die she might as well die at home. They gave her an injection and we took her home. The next day she was much better. We took her to another vet and we were given tablets. Now a week or so later she seems perfectly fine. No heavy ...read more
Our 6 month old puppy broke his leg very early on a Sunday morning last year and Southern Animal referral centre were such a help. We were very upset seeing our puppy so distressed and they were able to check him out straight away and give advice on what to do next. They took X-rays and put his leg in a cast until the animal hospital were open the next day. They were very friendly and helpful and gave us the relevant documents for his pet insurance claim and even gave our puppy a blanket to keep him warm on the way home. Thank you for all your help.
Found a distressed baby possum that looked like it had been attacked by a cat. My two young daughters and I took it into SARC and the nurse was lovely, caring and professional. Although it had to be put down (poor little thing) we knew it would be better off and free of pain.
Thank you for the kind review. At this time of year we see a lot of wildlife in trouble due to there being a lot of juveniles around and unsettled weather. Any member of the general public is able to take injured wildlife to their closest vet for immediate attention, so thank you for taking the time to do the right thing by the possum.
Pet owners and wildlife rescuers and carers living in the Bayside suburbs are so fortunate to have a 24 hour facility like SARC available to them. All the staff are highly professional and compassionate and have a broad understanding of all issues concerning domestic and native animals. I can't count the number of occasions I have witnessed first hand the compassion and understanding both the vets and nurses have shown towards distressed pet owners. As wildlife rescuers & carers SARC have provided us open access to their facilities and critical care and for this we are so thankful.

Many thanks to the wonderful staff and vets and SARC who do an amazing job with all the injured and orphaned wildlife they take in, without their expertise and dedication many of the wildlife would not make it. It is a great relief to me that I can depend on their ongoing support with the wildlife that comes in, also they have been outstanding in the ongoing treatment of my 14 year old golden retriever who would not be with me today without their diagnosis and treatment, We would highly recommend SARC to anybody who needs professional caring treatment for their animals
