This is not your average Japanese restaurant. This off beat restaurant is humble from the outside and eccentric on the inside. Don?t expect to see an all Japanese or Asian staff. The food may be Japanese but it isn?t necessarily prepared, cooked or delivered by Japanese people. Some patrons do expect to have walked into Japan. It has a lot of charm and intriguing food.
Finally, somebody has taken the initiative and effort to open a relaxed, classy restaurant that specialises in sushi. Indeed, sushi is one of my favourite foods - and Sushi Wushi at Eltham allows me to partake of it in a pleasant, comfortable atmosphere - without ripping open paper bags, squeezing soy sauce out of plastic fish, or hunching over food court tables. They offer a variety of other interesting Japanese dishes and have a bar that includes delicious imported plum wine. Interesting art adorns the walls; their staff are exceptionally friendly, and their prices are very reasonable. The sushi rolls are fresh as can be, but this may be why they have an annoying tendency to fall apart. Nonetheless, a wonderful dining experience - I will continue to visit every month, and recommend Sushi Wushi to all fans of Japanese food.
