I had an outstanding lunch here over the weekend. The restaurant is part of the famous winery and set in the Mornington Penninsula. Therabbit with smoked shallot purée was simply gorgeous and the wine pairing as recommended by the sommelier was perfect. The venue is nice and cosy. We had some great service too. I will definitely try to come back to try our the degustation menu.
I returned to show this place to my husband and had a lovely dinner with him. The staff have an eye for detail and remembered that this was a return visit and who my previous dining companions had been! The new menu required much perusal as everything looked delicious.
We managed to get a last minute booking for Saturday night and we were so glad as it was a great experience. The restaurant was lit beautifully at night and the service was attentive all night without being obtrusive. The food was amazing and an appropriate serve for the price paid. When my entree arrived I needed to check they hadn't accidentally given me a main course! The rabbit was delicious as was my pork main course. I couldn't fit in dessert. My friends duck, beef and vegetarian main courses were all enjoyed as were their pear, chocolate and banana desserts. The bread was so good I squeezed in two...
It is a two course / three course dining arrangement so make sure you structure your eating habits during the day so that you're properly hungry. If you're going to be in the area make sure that you book well in advance to ensure that you get a table.
It's a winery and restaurant that will make you want to come back. The first time we went it was pouring rain and very cold. Inside we were welcomed by beautiful heat of a huge fireplace and by delicious, inviting smells. The menu is not extensive and changes frequently. The portions are not big as it is fine dining so don't go very hungry:). It is also quite expensive but it is the sort of place you go to for a special occassion. The restaurant has the most extensive wine list I have ever seen with prices going up to a couple thousand dollars per bottle. Expect great service, absolute cleanliness and Aesop stuff in the bathrooms:).
