Thai. It is thai really. I had heard rave reviews about this place from friends (granted they only ate the vegetarian version so it could be it?) so we went here the other day for a quick lunch because we were hungry and it was *there*... I had the chicken panang curry. It was good, but not mind bogglingly good. I guess if you aren't looking for spectacular thai and need a feed, this place fits the bill. Oh and it looks like they do big group bookings. So good for thai parties! And they gave me a bit of paper when I left. $10 off next meal or something in the shop. Really? $10 off our next meal? This meal cost us $100 so $10 really wouldn't have changed much. Not really helpful. I ended up throwing it in the bin since I don't think I'll be back anyway.
I'm very skeptical of people having have tasted better thaifood in Sydney. Yes I've had food close to this in quality for less out west(better value), but nothing can beat their food and atmosphere. I would only reccomend this place for a dine in experience unless your earning 6 digits, and don't mind folking out over $20 a meal on takeaway. If the price is still to steep for a dine in experience (I wouldn't blame you) go for the specials at thai-rific (this place is only a touch less fragrent and has $10 specials). Just what ever you do, don't be tempted by their thai-ways restraunt at newtown station walk in area. It's a sad attempt at convincing customers they use the same ingredients and chefs as the restraunt, but realistically it's a massive step down in freshness, fragrance, and quality of ingredients/cooking quality. If I would have to guess I would say thai-ways was a bussiness model designed to use ingredients that are no longer fresh and are almost at the point ofread more
Thai Ways at Newtown station is a Cute tiny little extension to the famous Thai Pothong just down the road. It's designed specifically for the foot traffic in and out of Newtown Station offering quick lunch packs you can eat in or take with you. I had the Penang which has a pungent coconutty flavour and tender beef chunks swimming in it. TheChilli Basil Fish was ok, but not the best as the batter goes all soggy when packed into the containers they pre pack – I'll probably try the Masaman or Green Curry next time.
Even after many many years in business, Thai Pothong is still as popular as when I first knew about it. The crowds seem to fill this place on many hours of the day, especially during the evenings over the weekends. I returned for another visit to his place a few weeks ago and experienced just that. This large restaurant however has plenty of tables and seats and just enough space to make the patrons comfortable. The food range on this restaurant of standard Thai restaurant offerings. However, one thing I like the most about this place is that the food comes relatively quick. They also taste quite authentic and the portion sizes are quite good too. For desserts, however, they seem to be lacking range and only have a few too choose from. As for the price range, they might be slightly more premium but again you are paying for the space and atmosphere, something that other Thai restaurants nearby cant beat. There are a lot of staffs working on this restaurants soread more
