The Palace Hotel South Melbourne

Now this was a really nice pub with two beer gardens (though I couldn't work out how to get into the one out the back, despite there being people inside), and some really cool mementoes covering the wall. Mind you, when I first stepped inside, taking notice of the cricket bat leaning against the wall next to the entrance, I noticed that the pub seemed to be full of old men sitting at the bar (so people still sit at bars). A part of me was expecting this to be one of the dreary old pubs, but then I noticed the out door area, and realised that this was South Melbourne, so I guess these old guys are the remnants of the workers who used to live here.

Great place to hang out, especially during good weather as they have quite a large beer garden. Plenty of beer on tap and the food selection is great with plenty to choose from but I always seem to order the chicken parma - can't go wrong with that choice! Great crowd and I've always had a good time here.

I've been living in South Melbourne for the last two years, and only recently discovered this place. The walls and shelves are decked out with tonnes of beer paraphernalia and they have Stone & Wood on tap. The wood fires were a nice touch & $2 pool. The courtyard is large and surrounded by trees, though it was cold but I imagine during summer this place rocks. Had the rump steak and the buffalo wings, both were awesome. My friend had tacos which looked amazing. It was a Wednesday, but I'm told the footy is always on.



Like I said to the guy behind the bar, I'm so glad to finally have a pub like this around the corner from me!
