Unprofessional behaviour including no shows and cost and deadline blowouts are seemingly par of the course in the home renovation industry.
Everyone's got a horror story about dealing with tradesmen to the point its just embarrassing to be part of the industry at times, says home renovation specialist Hans Felden.
There's a lot of unprofessionalism but there's also an ugly group in the industry who are just plain shonky, he admits.
But Mr Felden, the founder of West Pymble-based Wizcrete Concrete Solutions, is doing his bit to restore the industries tarnished reputation.
His team of experienced and skilled tradesmen have been responsible for dramatically enhancing the visual appeal and market value of hundreds of homes in the last five years. This business uses subcontractors. They weren't well prepared and only had a paint colour chart to choose your colour. I didn't know what finish i was getting. My patio was left with smudge marks where the colour was rubbed into the stencil. The subcontractor lied to cover himself. Hans the director is rude and condescending his attitude is very unprofessional . The triple guarantee is a sales pitch it means nothing.
This business uses subcontractors to complete their work. Subcontractor was sent with no information of what was discussed in planning stages with Hans. Our huge driveway construction was a disaster from start to finish. Most notably completely the wrong colour, drainage not connected to correct stormwater. Solvent splashed all over the sealer. Patchwork quilt of sealing....the list goes on. Hans was hard to contact once the deal was done, erratic in his responses and at times hostile. We have now finally finalised everything, would definitely not recommend this company!!
We were utterly dissatisfied with the service and shape of our driveway. They only believe what their subcontractors say - so customer is not always right in case of Wizcrete. The marks left behind by their floor cuter on our garage floor were poorly fixed and they advised even Dept of Fair Trading wouldn't care. They refused to fix the shape of our driveway despite thei so called iron called guarantee that acts as a trap for prospective customers!
